Sharon Dickson
Vice Chair, Board of Trustees
From 1990 to 2008, Sharon served as Associate Director and Undergraduate Advisor in the Center for South Asia, University of Wisconsin-Madison, From 2006 to 2008 she served concurrently as Assistant Dean in the Division of International Studies, University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has also served as Assistant Director and then Administrative Director of SASLI since the SASLI consortium was formed and SASLI was first offered at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Along with Joe Elder, Sharon represented the Center for South Asia on the steering committee that developed SASLI in the Fall of 2001. She played an instrumental role in establishing SASLI at its first host institution, the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has continued to serve on the consortium Board of Trustees and Executive Committee to help shape academic directions for and the administration of SASLI. She has a B.A. in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has informally deepened her understanding of South Asia since she began working in the administrations of the Department of South Asian Studies and the South Asian Studies Center at UW-Madison in 1981. She has served on the UW-Madison International Institute Academic Planning Council, as Chair of the national outreach conference in 2002, and has made several presentations on outreach and administration at national conferences for Title VI directors.
Sharon retired in October 2008 from her senior administration position and appointment as assistant dean at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She continues to do independent consulting in university administration and program evaluation. She is also continuing her relationship with SASLI but in a new role working with the Chair of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee on marketing strategies and consortium-level administration.
