Applying to SASLI or UW Special Student Application

Q: How much does it cost to attend SASLI?
A: The 8-week program fee is $3,100 for 2008. This fee does not include the cost of textbooks or living expenses, but it does include the UW assessment fee.

Q: What is the Special Student form and why do I have to fill it out?
A: The UW-Madison Special Student form must be filled out by all NON-UW-Madison students. This application gives you UW-Madison student privileges, and allows you to register for your course through the UW-Madison registration system (MY UW).

Q: I already applied to SASLI on-line, do I need to fill out the Special Student form?
A: Yes, your application to SASLI on-line insures your space in the class. The Specail Student application will allow you to receive a UW-Madison student ID and with this ID, you can register for your course.

Q: Do I have to notify the Special Students office if I am not attending SASLI?
A: No, the UW-Madison Special Student office does not need to know that you will not be in Madison. Since you are only granted status for the summer term, your Special Student status will time out by Fall of 2008.

Q: Can I be rejected as a UW-Madison Special Student based on the information I submit on the form?
A: No, as a SASLI student, your application to the UW-Madison Special Student office is automatically accepted. You will be accepted as a UW Special Student, but your status is only in effect for the summer session.

Q: Will be a new graduate student at UW-Madison in the Fall of 2008, do I need to fill out this form?
A: No, but you will need to contact the Graduate School for early admission for the Summer of 2008.

Q: Can I apply to SASLI after the posted April 1st deadline?
A: Yes. If you are applying AFTER the posted deadline, please check the language offerings to make sure that your language of choice is still being offered. Please note that the earlier you apply the easier it is for SASLI to anticipate classes that run versus classes that will need to be cancelled.

Q: If I decide to cancel my application, Can I get my application fee of $25.00 refunded?
A: No. This is a processing fee.

Q: Am I liable for the program fee once I apply to SASLI on line?
A: No. You do not incur any charges until you have a student ID # and use this ID # to enroll in your class.

Q: Can I miss the first few days of SASLI?
A: No. You must be present beginning the first day of class.
