The annual WISLI Student Conference provides an opportunity for students at WISLI institutes and UW-Madison to present original research on various disciplines across area and transnational studies in Africa, Brazil, Central Eurasia, the Middle East and Mediterranean, Scandinavia, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. Abstract submissions are organized into thematic panels of two to four papers, with a moderated Q+A session following the presentations.

Be part of the WISLI Student Conference on June 29th, 2024! Take advantage of this great academic opportunity by showing off your research and networking with other scholars in various areas of study!

This is a hybrid event, taking place in-person at the Pyle Center and via Zoom. In-person and distance learners are encouraged to participate! The WISLI Student Conference is taking place next Saturday, June 29 from 8:30am – 4:00pm at the Pyle Center (3rd floor) in rooms 335 and 313.

In-person registration starts at 8:30am and the Conference will begin at 9:00am with the Keynote Address from Prof. Melody Niwot, Teaching Faculty II International Studies and Associate Director, Wisconsin International Scholars Program. Her talk is entitled, ‘Why Culture is Not an Iceberg‘. Student presentations will then take place throughout the day.
